The software you need. A little more good.

Buy the annual licence credential your organisation needs for the Purpose Source software it uses, and see where the fees go.

Start with the repository you use.

If it uses the Purpose Source License, an Entitlement records your organisation's permission to use the software within a chosen scope and annual term.

The source code stays in the project's repository. Its developers maintain and license the code; the Association issues and records the coverage, and Paddle, our merchant of record, handles payment and sales tax.

The repository catalogue helps you find projects and check their licence version and registration. How the directory works.

The licence was published on 2026-10-01. Launch prices are on the pricing page; payments are handled by Paddle, our merchant of record.

Small organisations can use it free.

Under the licence, your consolidated group qualifies if it has both fewer than 100 employees plus contractors and less than one million US dollars in annual revenue.

Both measures use the prior tax year. At or above either threshold, covered use needs an Entitlement or another permission recognised by the licence, such as a recorded waiver. Non-profit and public bodies meet the threshold whatever their size.

You declare your group's revenue band. There is no licence audit or source-inspection right.

What about an application that uses a dependency?

Your application keeps its own licence. Using a Purpose Source dependency does not require you to disclose your application's source; the dependency itself still follows its own coverage rules.

How libraries fit →

Choose the scope that fits.

Prices follow your revenue band. Each option covers an annual term; the difference is which registered repositories it includes.

The Pass
Every registered repository in the network, for one annual fee. No need to assemble a list of projects.
Choose coverage →

Keep the releases your term covers.

Within your purchased scope, versions published on or before your term ends remain covered permanently.

Your term renews automatically each year, extending coverage to later releases, unless you turn renewal off. Each release also becomes Apache-2.0 four years after its own publication. Term and renewal details.

After the processor's fee and published, capped costs, Purpose Fees go to listed public-benefit organisations working in health, education, poverty relief, humanitarian aid, animal welfare, the environment and research.

A clear record for your organisation.

Your coverage can be checked in the registry. Publicly listing your organisation's name is optional.

For an internal review, one pack brings together the licence, purchase terms and verification method.
